About the author
In Tripoli, Libya, Norman McIlwain served for nine years on the executive board of an international Church (one of the few Churches with official recognition) and completed this service as chairman.
Whilst serving the Church in Libya, he co-ordinated with the British Bible Society for the importation of several thousand Bibles in English to serve the expatriate community, with the official approval of the Libyan religious affairs and customs authorities for such an undertaking. This was the first importation of this kind into Libya and was supported by Evangelical ministers in Malta. Privately, he was also responsible for the importation of hundreds of Bibles in Arabic – to assist local evangelism amongst Arabic speakers. The author, in addition to administrative responsibilities, had a preaching role at the Church and was called upon to speak at various Christian fellowship services and studies.
The book is the product of fourteen years of research and prayerful study. (Author's note: 'I had to take the time to articulate all that I've come to understand about the biblical revelation of the atonement. It is the light that cannot be hidden – and has to be shared with others. There is nothing new – for it’s the teaching of the Bible – but it is different to what many say and have taught.')
In October, 1982, the author had a 'born-again' experience that changed his life and outlook. He was confirmed at a special ecumenical service into the Anglican, Methodist and United Reformed Churches in 1984 and was baptized at a Baptist Church in the same year. (Author's note: ‘I was actually very keen on the ecumenical movement at that time, but I could not agree with attempts to embrace other faiths. It seemed to me that too many in the movement had ceased to accept the authority of Scripture. However, I still have a strong desire to see Christians becoming united in a deeper spiritual sense.')
In the year 2000, the author moved to live in China with his wife and family. He was born in Liverpool, England, and presently has a home near Swansea, Wales.
